To a point, 440 is correct.
I look at it this way:
A 30-30 is almost like a 300 Savage
A 300 Sav is almost like a 308
A 308 is almost like a 30-06
A 30-06 is almost like a 300 Win
A 300 Win is almost like a 300 RUM
But a 30-30 isn't almost like a 300 RUM at all.
Everything is incremental and it's those incremental improvement that some of us love to explore because we love guns and love to play with them.
Is there much difference out to 200 yards? Not really. Is there a difference when ranges get on the long side? Of course and that's why we practice, practice, practice and tinker, tinker, tinker.
For the guy who shoots a "box" of ammo per year, most any round will do everything he can do. For the guy who shoots a H-U-G-E BOX of ammo per year, he looks for the little things that make an incremental difference.
Yes, the new 300 Norma possibly has some incremental improvement but with that round there are serious trade-offs with the larger body diameter and the trade-off isn't worth it to me since I'm already set up for something else with identical performance.
