Frozen cape question

How long will a cape that has been fleshed and salted last in the freezer if the ears and lips weren't turned? Is two years to long? The capes are pronghorn and deer.

That's a crap shoot at best. You either freeze them or salt them. Not both. Unless the skin was allowed to dry before being put in the freezer. A salted skin will not freeze and may very well have some damage.

Assuming that it has been fleshed properly and was frozen in time to begin with and the face and ears are on the inside of the ball of fur you should be okay. It's always better to wet tan and then store a hide than to store it raw.

It was fleshed properly and fully dried when I froze it but the ears weren't turned. Thanks

Salted hide is fine to freeze. No turned ears can be problem..........prolly perty freeze dried by now, but can be rehydrated. If you roll them up like a sleeping bag (face and ears tucked first) double sack, they'll last long time in a freezer with no issues.
