We have 2 of the original e-trex about 5yrs old and they are great. They are user friendly and we have never had any issues with them. We have beat them up in every type of hunting/backpacking condition possible...
We purchased the Delorme Topo North America map program then down loaded topo to the GPS's. Go hunting and add Waypoints. Then when back from your trip you can down load the GPS Waypoints into your DeLorme Map program. With the Map features of that program you can then see your noted Waypoints on the Topo map as well as the areial satillite data photo view.
