For me it all happened back in Oct 2022 on my Antelope hunt in Wyoming with my hunting buddy. Had not been hunting in the previous 7 years due to fire, stress, health issues. My friend is 5 years younger than me. I wish him the best if he still plans to hunt, for me I realized at 81 it is time to say goodby to the rest of you. Wishing ALL OF YOU a Happy New Year in 2023 and beyond and stay healthy.

I’d imagine I’ll get there sooner than many here on MM.
I feel bad that the time has come for you to give it up but there’s no reason to say goodbye to us unless there’s more going on than we know about.
I certainly don’t hunt all the time but feel like I can contribute to the site anyway. I’d bet that applies to you to Mr. Kilo….unless there’s more to the story.

Best to you sir,
Zeke

I wish you well. Tough decision for all of us as we move along the timeline of life.

Glad you recognized it, after enjoying one last experience. You still have a wealth of info to share, and stories to tell, so keep us blessed with your participation.

That’s sad to hear. I hope your memories and adventures lived in the wild places bring you happiness when you think of them! Hang in there!

Happy New Years Brian. Have not seen you in awhile. Hope all is well. How did your antelope hunt go?
Big game might be out, but there is always small game and fishing. Hope to see you around.

Sounds like you hunted for most of your life. Some will never understand that for many it is love of nature and enjoying healty food that we took care of and being thankful for being healthy to do the hunt. I want on as early as many but have been here for 12 or more years. Share us some great times if you can. I would love that. My Fad who taught me to hunt lived to almost 92. I miss sharing stories with him.

Brian, I know it happens to most of us at some point. I feel it coming. I'll never forget coming out of the Rubies and seeing your card on my windshield. I still have it in my wallet. And the time we met in Elko and dinner at the Star. And your first antelope in Wyoming. Remember how hard it rained and how muddy the roads were? I had to borrow all your quarters to wash my truck off at the car wash. Was that in Pinedale? I can't remember what year that was.

I wish you the best and by all means stop in once in a while and share some stories.

Happy new years to you Brian. You made many memories you will remember. Yes, we will all have that day come at some point. Enjoy and best to you!!!

Threads like this remind me it's just as important to take older people hunting like its important to get the kids out there.

What's even better is if you can get older hunters into hunting camp at the same time as the kids. THAT IS HOW CULTURE IS MAINTAINED. It's valuable and important.

If you know an old hunter who isn't hunting anymore find a way to get him out there. To do it safely may take a lot of effort but it's well worth it.

Kilowatt,

Please be at a campfire next season. Please make the stories bigger than ever. Hell, paint your story on a big rock and let the campfire bring it to life. Warp the minds of some young men!

Oh about 12-13 yrs ago I asked on MM about "Sleeper States" for big game hunting. Kilowatt responded Rhode Island. Been putting in that state ever since and still ain't drawn a tag. Maybe next year! ✌️Thanks for the advise Brian and I wish you all the best! Cheers ?!!

Sad to hear you are not planning any future hunts. It doesn't mean you can't still stop by monstermuleys.

My very best to you Brian. You've always been a positive influence here on MM and I have appreciated getting to know you.

We all have limits and I'm glad you are using your judgment wisely. But yes, please join us here on MM.

And if you ever get to Wyoming or if you just want to come and drive around to look at critters or shoot prairie dogs, my door is always open to you.

Best of luck and thank you for your positive presence on this sometimes crazy place.

Been around 10 months since my last post and still above ground.
Had a few close calls but still able to drive to the Casinos and back to local car shows. Down sized my pu last year after Wyo trip got me a 22 GMC AT4, turbo V6 that is a kick to drive.
My wife of 56 years has been in a care facility for 3 years so that has been hard for me with all the health issues around but I still
try to get around and have fun. Happy hour every Thursday evening with friends.
Only person I seen is LIK2HNT, had Breakfast with Bill and his wife still need to go by his house to see those 2 Bighorn Rams he got a few years ago.
Hope all is well with all of you and stay healthy.

I remember you as already being an ole timer on MM when I signed in 2009 or 2010. I have always enjoyed your dropping in with your comments and wisdom that only comes with a life time of experience. I miss your posts and wish you’d offer your perspective more often.

Hope to hear from you again without, waiting another 10 months. Wish you all the best Brain.

Thanks for checking in Brian. You haven't missed much though. Overton never checks in, and Homer hasn't changed for the better. I don't know what happened to 1911 or Fireball. Big bucks have all but disappeared, but the whining has kicked up a notch. Bess is still the glue holding it all together.

I will be 81 in two months and will be applying again this year, but only to mentor my Grandson. I have enough points to be hunting dedicated this year and enough points to draw on the regular hunt. Guess I will continue to apply with re-assessment one day at a time.
The Grandson I was going to mentor never showed up. He said he didn't want to miss work. I pulled out my smoothbore English Sporting Rifle and hit the backroads knowing I would have to get a buck 75 yards or closer which would not be very likely. The last evening of the hunt I saw three bucks less 60 yards. One very nice buck stood at a little over 50 yards. I pulled the gun out, got a dead rest, and everything was perfect for a good shot. If I was to wound it, I couldn't chase it, so I took the cap off and went home. Time to quit, I've seen the best of hunting times and the worst over a period of 68 years. :) Good luck to all of you hunters. Hope to see some major changes to deer hunting, especially saving the mule deer as well as a lot more regulations on the muzzleloader hunt.

You're a good man Brian, I wish all the best for you and your wife. Thanks for checking in.

I know all of us will be there one day. I can’t imagine how hard it must be taking off your hunting boots for the last time. The anticipation of the “next hunt” motivates me year after year.
I’m sure if you close your eyes & reflect on some of your past hunts, you can relive those memories over & over.
God bless you & your wife sir!
