has anyone ever rifle hunted any of the special hunt breaks units like 621,622,798,410 . not looking for any special info just want to hear some stories from that country.

LAST EDITED ON May-11-08 AT 11:16AM (MST)[p]Here is a 2006 video clip filmed in one of those units. I also have pics of a few other bulls we have taken on those hunts. If you are lucky enough to draw any of those tags and are not afraid of some hiking and packing, you may shoot the bull of your dreams.

Good luck.

Great video. Makes me really want to get back there, that is awsome elk country. Spent a few years there outside Wennitt, MT.

How is the hunting for cow elk? I see the odds for drawing a tag in 622 are real good but it seems the harvest is low.

Most of the cows we saw last fall were all found on private ground. And wouldn't ya know you couldn't hunt on 90% of it :(

Yea that is what I have found out too. Made a few phone calls so I hope one of those turns out. Mainly be whitey hunting on the missouri but wouln't mind a nice cow elk.

Fin....that video was REALLY cool...did you do that? Are they friends or is that you or what??
Lastly...who is the singer/picker?

Hornseeker:

Thanks for the comments. Yup, I did that.

I have a lot of these kind of clips. Myself and the shooter in that clip have been collecting "On Your Own" hunting footage for many years. We have filmed two clips in the Breaks, and many clips elsewhere in the west.

I am more of the editor, and Ryan, the shooter in this clip, is more of the camera specialist.

My only involvement in this particular clip is that I did all the editing and formatting. The shooter is Ryan, and his camera man on the trip was Tim.

Hard to capture a five day hunt in a five minute video clip. The Breaks are the essence of a western On Your Own big game hunt, whether for deer or elk. Glad that the Breaks are still pretty much "how we found 'em"

The music is by Dan Tyminski.

Like I said, I have a lot more of these, but I am not sure how welcomed such clips are here, given that MM has its own site, Monsterclips.com.

Happy Hunting!

I surfed through some of your others....VERY well done...better than 99% of what is on TV...good job!

What part of the state are you guys whackin all them mulies and whities nad lopes in? Private? (MT I assume...??)

Not asking to divulge anything...just a VERY general region..:0)

Seeker:

Thanks. Those lopes and deer are almost all on accessible lands, in MT and other western states. Some is private property enrolled in state access programs, most is public. The elk are all on public. The mountain goats, moose, and caribou are all on public.

Takes a lot of research, but that is what the off season is for. If ever the BLM runs out of map inventory, they can call me for refills, but my maps are pretty abused and marked up. I hope my laptop never dissappears, as my Google Earth overlays and markers would be a loss of hundreds of hours of scouting, besides being valuable to hunters with tags in these areas.

Most the antelope are eastern MT, central WY, northeastern NM, or northwestern NV. The deer are mostly central and eastern MT, eastern NV, southern WY, western CO, AZ Strip. The elk are MT, NM, AZ, and NV.

Glad you liked it. The networks have a bunch of our footage. Hope to be able to provide a better update on the project in a month or so. Most likely, it will result in nothing more than the best collection of home hunting video I could ever ask for. I have lots more than those few clips I have loaded on that site you were surfing.

Hope you get a Breaks tag on Monday, so long as it isn't my Breaks tag!

I wont get your breaks tag...this is the first year I didn't put in for one...put in for a mountain tag..tough draw...good hunt...
Good Luck!!

Well, looks like I drew archery elk for the Breaks. Very happy. Same unit as the picture above showing my son's 2005 elk. Great unit, and now with a lot fewer hunters.
