saving velvet, how long before it goes bad? how many hours?
Also, what product is best for fake velvet in case it can't be saved?

Did they let you fly home with the velvet still on your antlers? The outfitter we were using said air Alaska had to have the antlers striped.
My taxi was showing me pictures of some artificial velvet that looked real good but I'm not sure how much its going to cost. I'm going to have mine done since I want to remember the hunt and how the bull was.

The trick is getting the blood out as fast as you can.
Slightly split the tips of the antlers and "milk" the blood out.
Then inject it with formaldehyde as soon as you can. That is tricky if you don't have any. I would get it to a good taxidermist as soon as you can.
If you don't do anything within a few days, I think it will start to rot.
