Has anyone hunted 33 with a muzzleloader? (following the restricted muzzleloader rules)

I put in for it as an archery hunt, but was interested in the restricted muzzleloader hunt as well.

I am guessing that the terrain out there will allow for closer shots, as it's become a popular bow unit?

Does the unit have a healthy population of deer?

Thank you for any information that you can pass on.

It is an extremely tough hunt. As the rules states you have to use a muzzloader that isnt a Inline ignition system so Side lock or Flynt lock only, with black powder and roundballs or concicle bullets and open sights. This adds to an already difficult hunt.

Deer populations are isolated to pockets and the density is definitly low. Archery hunting will give you more opportunities just because of the rut and the "dumbness" factor of the bucks. Plus it brings more quality out into the open. THis isnt the case at all during this Muzzleloader hunt.

But if you do happen to get into a pocket, and close the gap to get a good shot, and your Restricted muzzloader does go off, even without a delay as many sidelocks and flynt locks do have a delay, then you can be succesful.

Bottom line is, it is just a tough hunt.

Thank you for the great intel/response BloodhoundBrother

I second what Bloodhound brother said. Very sparse deer populations. Combine that with the muzzleloader restrictions and it is a very low percentage hunt.
