    Montana Pronghorn opening day

    > That's what I heard This >year is the 12 I > wasn?t sure >How come so late Most all Montana seasons are based off of Thanksgiving. This year is the latest that Thanksgiving can be, so all the dates are pushed back a bit.

    Building points for kids??

If you expect to ever draw, then no. If you don't mind paying for a 200 dollar lottery ticket, go for it. I wouldn't be surprised if theres no longer a moose or sheep season in Montana in 20 years. That said, every year somebody with less than 1% odds does draw. Can't draw if you're not in...

Lets see some Montana bucks and bulls!

LAST EDITED ON Dec-14-15 AT 08:26PM (MST)[p]Love that buck Tyler. Sounds like it was a good year for horn growth down there. A few Montana bucks I left on the mountain for next year- ? ? ? ? ?

Thanks MT. Great Mt.Goat with my son

Awesome goat Paul! I was down there this weekend and half heartedly glassed for goats for a while. Was wondering how your hunt had gone. That's a giant billy, glad you had a good hunt!

    Montana deer help

The area you're talking about has pretty low deer densities, and gets absolutely pounded by hunters from Butte, mainly looking for elk. Also, unit 319 is permit only. That isn't to say there aren't some deer to be had (and a random nice one), but it wouldn't be an area I'd personally consider...

331-20 Going Mt. Goat hunting. :)

LAST EDITED ON Jun-25-15 AT 02:45PM (MST)[p]Do you know this unit Paul? There's not a ton of goats, and they're spread out over a pretty big range. good news is access isn't bad once you locate them, and you can do a lot of glassing from the truck with a spotting scope. It's a great tag, but...

    Bighorn "unlimited area" Question

The unit that was shut down was 305, which is a limited unit that was slated to have one permit issued this year.

    Party Application Question

It depends on what you mean by 'help'. It helps the odds of the entire group drawing, it hurts the odds of at least one person in the group drawing, and it keeps the odds identical for you as an individual drawing. Like Tpiscopo said, rather than each persons name being in the hat, if you do...

    Aircraft and scouting in Wyoming

I got to watch this guy fly around one day on my antelope hunt last year in SW WY. He proceeded to buzz every herd in that part of the unit, sending them to god knows where. I had been hunting for six days, and couldn't relocate a single buck after this asshat had been in the air for a couple...

    482 Elk?

One of the top two or three units in the state. Hunt hard for something 340-350, but don't be bummed if you have to 'settle' for something in the low 300's. If you're not passing on bulls daily you're doing something wrong. I'd start on the South end and work your way North, but there's honestly...

    Flint Creek Range

It's more or less everything north of boulder creek and west of gold creek in 212. Mostly the heavily roaded stuff. I don't want to try to deter you from chasing elk there, there's definitely a ##### load of them. Especially compared to the rest of region 1 and 2. It just gets frustrating with...

    Flint Creek Range

I've never seen a mule deer of any size in there, decent numbers though. The elk hunting's tough in there. Tons of elk, but every year more and more are staying on the Angelo Ranch year around. Also keep an eye on the regs, they're talking about making a big chunk of that special permit only...

    Northwest Montana Whitetails

A couple of tips from my experiences with those mountain deer- Don't get hung up on riparian areas. The deer might be using a dense creek bottom where you'd assume a whitetail might be, or they might be using an open ridgeline 3000 feet above the valley floor in a foot of crusty snow. You can't...

    hunting with wife/GF?

Marrying a girl that was brought up a hunter was the best decision I've ever made. She loves game meat, and is by far my favorite hunting partner. To me, all the same reasons I married her make her that much more enjoyable to hunt with. Not to mention she's a damn good hunter. She spots game...

Not a giant, but my wife killed this 6 year old buck last Saturday in a far western MT general unit. Rut was full bore when we were up there.

when does the velvet come off in montana??

Seems like a pretty big window they can strip them in. I looked at thirty or so bucks tonight, and two were hard horned, both 140 type bucks.

I didn't say it didn't effect it. I was referring to you saying we can thank the Internet for the unit's demise, which just isn't true.

    HD 270 Deer Status

I couldn't draw it even before the odds nosedived, let alone now. I'd love either tag, but man the odds are a joke right now. Thing is there's nothing else worth applying for, so might as well keep applying.

    HD 270 Deer Status

Was there much a time that 270 was a really good tag before it was "discovered" and the odds were down around 1%? I wasn't as in tune with the situation in the early 2000's, but I don't remember it flying under the radar ever like the other unit you mention.

    HD 270 Deer Status

    >You can thank the internet for >the demise of the draw >odds and buck quality in >270. Is that right nonya? The Internet caused every local yokel to pick up an unlimited tag for across the highway and notch it in 270? The Internet caused all the native brothers to drive down in September...

    HD 270 Deer Status

I don't see how it'll ever get back to what it was 2004-2007. We'd go down in December back then to drive around and see dozens of 160+ bucks in a day, with a few 180+ thrown in. It was amazing. The same drive now we'll see a third of the bucks, with maybe a handful over 160. It's still a...

    Montana Moose 320

No worries. I don't know that drainage at all, but the units I do know around Dillon are doing really, really well. I doubt finding moose will be a problem. Those late hunts sound really unique, and it's looking like you could be one of the last guys to get to go on one. The mature bulls star...

    Montana Moose 320

You need to get on the phone with FWP ASAP and find out what tag you have, and have them explain to you where it's good for. None of what you have said matches up with anything in the regulations, and the two units you've mentioned have an entire mountain range between them. Sorry if I'm...

    Where to Live?

Missoula's great if the weirdos don't bother you. If they do then there's lots of great areas that are more Montana and a short commute to Missoula. Lots of great hunting and fishing in that part of the state though.

    Antelope Rifle Opener

I killed a good one opening morning, and my brother got a nice one Sunday. He's still out there trying to get his wife on one. Our group got really lucky and drew 3/4 buck tags in 700. Seemed like way less hunters out with the tag numbers being lowered.

    >ewes have >thin horns to the tip, >usually 5-8" The ewe horns I've measured have been quite a bit longer than that. I don't have a huge sample but I think most I've seen have been over ten, with the biggest around 12-13.

They can definitely get pushed up in to some holes. A couple years ago we killed a buck down there in an adjacent unit at 8400 feet in some rock bluffs.
