I had the 2nd rifle tag in 2B 2 years ago(wow that was a lot of 2's) and it was a blast. I would see anywhere from 50-75 deer a day. Mature bucks were definitely few and far between but ended up killing a slammer on the 2nd to last day.(another 2) PM me and Ill tell you what I was able to...

Tough call but in my opinion time with your son is more important then any elk or deer tag. He will remember his 1st hunt for eternity!!!

As much as we all love to tag a bull and fill the freezer, more often then not it doesn't happen. NMELKTROUT and I had one of those hunts on the 2nd rifle tag this year. It takes a hunt or two like this to remind us how fortunate we are when we do end up tagging one!! Couldn't ask for anything...

TOPGUN Thanks man, that means a lot. How did the 2B hunt go by the way? SWAGshootn I use a hand held Sony Steady Cam with a doubler for all the longer shots and then a Cannon DSLR t3i for the closeup stuff and GoPro's for the time-lapses....I cut everything on Final Cut Pro X. Sounds super...

Ill be up there the 17th-23rd. Just talked to a buddy that lives up there and he said about the same. Not much snow and the elk are scattered. He said he was talking to a few hunters that had told him the bigger bulls are still in Montana. Pray for some snow. Good Luck!!!
