Limited Utah Deer

Since nobody has said it yet. You have zero chance of drawing your second choice but good luck with your first choice. If your basing your odds off 307 people that put in last year, that's not your true odds. In fact with 11 points, your odds are probably a little better than that.

I agree its nice to atleast apply for a chance regardless of how
Slim that chance may be . You have zero chance if you don't apply. I drew arguably the best archery Elk tag in the state of Nevada 2 years ago as a non resident with 12 points. 3 non resident tags given out with over 3000 applicants!! With Nevada using squared points the odds of one of my numbers coming up were horrendous.... but I somehow managed to get lucky. "So you're saying there's a chance" definitely comes to mind haha.

Good luck in the draws this year everyone you never know when lightning is going to strike!

Someone always beats the odds - one of the reasons that I like Utah's draw process with 50% of tags going to highest point holders and 50% random. There is always a chance.

I drew a OIL moose tag with ZERO points in 2000 and hunted RM Bighorn sheep last year. Hoping I can draw Desert bighorn sheep this year with ZERO ?

Haha good luck with that! But you are right seems like every year 1 or 2 fantastic tags get drawn by applicants with 0 or 1 point. I also like Our (Utahs) system!

Correct me if I’m wrong but, if we base it off last year he has a 1 in 1220 chance as there were that many who applied and only 1 random tag

Yep, can't draw if you don't put in. Sure is fun thinking about drawing a random. Years ago my brother-in-law asked what unit to put my wife's sister in for moose. I told him Chalk Creek. There was only one random tag and she drew it on her first time putting in with zero points. It can happen. Good luck to all in the draws.

Some people are just plain lucky with draws and I'm not one of them. I was pretty much the last person in my point pool to draw most of my LE/OIL tags and I'm still playing the point game in multiple states with no expectations.

I'm right there with you littlebighorn. Luckily I bought points for wife and kids from the time they were eligible and have been on some awesome hunts and have several more to come. I don't have to be the trigger guy to make memories.

Talking to my cousin this weekend and he said might as well do it which I had. Ste George is a pretty place. We went to Gunlock Falls today. Ate lunch at Pork Bellys and bought a Mountain Berry Pie at Veyos which I just had a piece topped with Vanilla Bean Ice Cream. Oh my gosh was it awesome. If no one watches I might have another piece. Haha
I just learned that the North Rim of the Grand Canyon is about 60 miles from here.
The old road to Vegas is on the way to Gunlock Falls. Too many people with money here so the houses are beoucoup bucks. Tons of hiking trails and bike trails but too many people.
It is so hot here and we didn't have any time to adjust from the Idaho temp to this 90°+ temp. Whew ?

My family has been lucky in Utah, as residents:
My wife drew elk- 2-3% odds
Me (twice), all 3 of my sons have drawn bear tags within the past 7-8 years in very good units (all random tags)
Drew Books Cliffs Muzzleloader with 4 points, I believe.
Drew a bison expo tag several years back, my dad drew an expo elk tag the next year.

We have been lucky and I’ll be trying to fill my bear tag in a few weeks…

I was lucky from 2010 to 2016 in Idaho Controlled hunts- Elk, Deer, Antelope. I drew one or another . I drew a bull elk tag in 2020. So about 8 tags since 2006. If you do the math it is about one tag every 2.1 years. But the first 11 years were my best. I started hunting in Idaho in 1970 but we lived in Washington then.
I got a NR Muley Doe at 12 years old. I got a spike Whitetail at 14 yo. Moved to Idaho and dropped a 6 point Elk when I was 15 about 2 months before my 16th birthday. I left Idaho in 1978 and didn't move back until 2005. I lived in Utah from 1999 to 2005. I dropped a Muley every year I was a Resident there and 1 Elk.
I caught an 8 lb Rainbow Trout while I lived there which was pretty cool.
I've drawn 3 Elk and one Deer in Utah as a Non Res. I haven't applied with my Pronghorn , Elk and Moose points in Utah for 4 years. I still have the points though.

I drew a great pronghorn unit in Nevada with 2 points when I lived there. Utah has never been kind to me. My dad drew a tag in Panguitch Lake for elk with 2 points.
