    Unit 33 mulies

I second what Bloodhound brother said. Very sparse deer populations. Combine that with the muzzleloader restrictions and it is a very low percentage hunt.

    Old Draw Odds

Does anyone have the 2013 draw odds report saved that they would be willing to share? NMDGF has the 2014 report on their website but I can no longer find the 2013 report.

    Unit 34 Muzzey Packout

Anybody know of anyone with horses in the area who may be willing to help pack out an elk in the event of success? If so, drop a line with contact info. We can get them out most of the time on our back, but if it is in a real hairy spot, I'd like to have someone to call.

LO tags are getting out of control!!!!!!

I think it has a lot to do with the Oil Boom. I meet a West Texan every day who has been Elk hunting in NM w/some service company in the last few years. Everybody is making good money, the supply of tags is going down, the price of poker is going up.

Breaking News-Organs, et al to be National Mounument

I saw this coming, with the left wing movement going on Las Cruces. That's a shame, the areas on that map were the best areas to hunt during my college years. Great quail and decent deer populations.

    Terk Overturned

Not a resident (anymore unfortunately as of last year, born and raised in NM by the way) but congrats to the hunters of NM. Residents of NM deserve the best shot at hunting their animals. >Yep, full refund, of all fees. > > >I'll be asking for my pronghorn >fees to be refunded as...

    Ram vs Buck vs Bull

I think most rams, if given time, will make it to 30". That is why you see way more hit the dirt. Most bucks in NM will never break 175" in their prime, even if allowed to die of old age. I am not as familiar with elk, but would guess that a 400" bull in NM is similar to a 200" mule deer...

    Barbary For Dinner ?

I'm with everyone else. Not quite as gamey as deer, much more mild. Grind the whole thing with 10-15% beef fat and use it fore chili and burger. Not a great meat (like oryx or elk) but definitely not bad.

    Tag Allocations... Mule Deer

Couldn't agree more. Cut tags in half and quadruple the price. Less Hunters = Less Bucks Killed

    Cruces game processor

    >Mack's Meats. I've used them >several times for elk. > They do a great >job. Would not recommend Mack's Meats, however I think they are the only ones in town. I took three deer there when I was in college and all three had a ton of hair in the meat. It never got better, but you don't...

    New Mexicans

I am almost embarrassed. It's a shame to see the morals and values of our state be diminished due to the mindset of 3 cities. The rest of the state will continue to suffer because of their decisions and NM will continue take more government handouts than it ever puts back into the system.

    Muzzle loader Mountain lion found

Way to go on the cat! Don't listen to the bleeding hearts. You can get two cat tags over the counter every year. It may be ten years before you get another rifle elk tag (thanks to the out of state hippies who constantly ##### in our forum). Don't let it get to you.

    Javelina Hunt

Good luck with the javelinas, I have seen a few southwest of deming. If you do happen to stumble across some quail, do yourself a favor an leave them alone and go buy a lottery ticket, because it's your lucky day.

    Rabbits?

    >Rabbits and quail are few >and far between down here >these days. Yep, its getting to the point that the game and fish should really do something about the quail populations. I think most folks would we okay with not hunting them for a couple seasons to give them a chance in this drought.

SFW Wolf Sheds it's Sheep's Clothing in AZ

    > > I personally will pull >every card I have to >keep this rich man's pay-to-play >tag scheming out of our >state. What do you call the current land owner tag system? At least with this, the money goes to the wildlife, not the landowners pockets for state animals.

Meat processor in Las Cruces New Mexico/ El Paso Texas

LAST EDITED ON Nov-03-11 AT 01:40PM (MST)[p]As far as a taxidermist, Manny (not sure of last name) in Carlsbad does an excellent job, but is pricey. I haven't found any good meat processors near by. I had my cousin take my meat back to Midland with him this year. I have used Anthony at Mac's...

    want your opinon

What can you do? A "friend" would realize that is your sons deer. Doesn't sound like very good friends to me. The kid's dad should have taken the opportunity to teach his son what a hunting "buddy" is all about, but all he did was show him how to be greedy.

    Private Land Tags in AZ

hello all, my buddy just married into a family with a lot of land in AZ. They have never let anybody hunt it before and offered us the opportunity. We are both NM residents and were wondering what the process was in AZ for out of state private land tags. Here in NM, they are purchased either...

    Southern NM Muley

After two days of not seeing anything I wanted, my cousin and I spotted this one on the morning of day 3. We watched him feed and bed down about 9:00 and began the stalk. After 2 hours and 1 mile I had this buck within 130 yards and put and end to a good hunt. Thanks to my cousin and my dad...

I would guess harvest percentage is less than 10%, probably closer to 5%. For a trespass fee, your looking at $1500 BARE minimum. Probably closer to $3000.

    Antelope rifle?

I would say 270WSM is a little much for the speed goats, but is an awesome round at that. Out of the two you mentioned, I would definitely go with the 25. It is extremely versatile and can be used for everything from predators to muleys at long range. Your boys will thank you in the long run...

    Out of State Draw Liscenses

The issue is not that a resident will magically begin to draw when less NR's receive tags. The issue is that in a lot units (that aren't high demand units), an NR has a greater chance to draw than a resident. That is unfair as a good percentage of hard working New Mexicans' money goes to the...
