Just over a week ago this past friday, we talked with this young hunter and his buddy and friends dad at the local Motel in Norwood, Colorado. They had the room next to us and had drove out from West Virginia and have been doing this for the past 5 years. They drive straight thru, a 28 hour drive from what they told us.
They were all excided again like in the past hunts for the opening morning to go after ELK and that is all they hunt....guess they found a "honey hole" as "Gleny" as he was called, said he was going to get a bigger Elk than the one he got a year or so ago there.
We talked about 1/2 hour till it got chilly outside so wished each other good luck for the next day.
My friend and I were up and gone by 4:30am to drive out to the area where PC_the_Great told us to go to give it a try out in the "basin". The guys next to us had not left yet.
Make a long story short, we were talking with a "Sheriff" at the basin store about 10:30 when we got coffee and head to another area. Asked him if he was helping F&G and he said NO, had to go assist others on a young man who died from a heart attack at Lone Cone.
Well when we got back to Motel at about 5pm the older man was standing at the end of walkway smoking a cig and he told us that Gleny died about 9:30am after he got his Bull Elk, his biggest one ever......man what a shocker that was. They were going to leave the next day or so and go home to WV.
It was the talk of that small town, the folks there did all they could to help the other two cope with the situation and help them in any way.
I was able to locate the local paper just now thru GOOGLE and here is his obit.....sure which they had a website to give regards to his family but it is a small rural area I guess and not up to modern internet applications.
REST IN PEACE GLENY.
