Just as bad, if not worse on the eastern side. The deer got hammered last winter. Some areas on the eastern side had close to 0% fawn survival so it will be several years before it improves. If you already know 39 and live close by I wouldn't waste the gas and time trying the eastern side of the...

    Unit 21 Elk

+1 to above posts. Hunted deer in both unit 21 and right next door in 22, both 2nd and 3rd rifle seasons and every time I go I'm surprised by the amount of elk hunters but the lack of elk. I've only seen two elk total over my last 4 times hunting around there. I thought maybe I was just missing...

    072 Archery Elk

Yeah that is the biggest one I have ever seen killed in velvet too! ... or did you just mean the biggest you saw on your hunt? Obviously your hunt ended well but anything else you'd like to share about the hunt?

    072 Archery Elk

Thanks for the reply. I'm glad to hear they are starting to get vocal. That should help to locate them and make for a fun hunt.

    072 Archery Elk

Anybody back from hunting around the Jarbidge? Any success on archery elk? Were most of the Bulls in the wilderness or spread out into other areas as well? I've got the muzzleloader tag that opens Friday but I'm not going to be able to get there until Sunday morning and the anticipation is...

    Muzzy 21 Info please

Good numbers of deer, there is some higher ground on the south-southeast side but the deer can be spread throughout the unit, even on the earlier hunts. Lots of roads and often times the best strategy is just to cover ground. Hit as many glassing points as possible. Good luck and keep us...

    Unit 54 youth hunt

Unless you are looking for a campground with hookups there are camp spots everywhere in the unit. Just figure out where you want to hunt and look for a good spot close by. There are some campgrounds on the northern part of the unit and more cell coverage. Cell service is very limited throughout...

    072-074 Jarbidge muzzy Elk

Patriot, that's great that you were able to draw that tag the year after you were in there deer hunting. You got the benefit of scouting for you hunt and during the same time frame as your hunt. I've got a good buddy who's supposed to go with me and just talked to another guy with a horse and a...

    072-074 Jarbidge muzzy Elk

LAST EDITED ON Jun-07-17 AT 09:38AM (MST)[p]Finally got a elk tag in NV and now I'm feeling a little overwhelmed to make the most of it. Always thought if I drew this OIL tag for me, I'd try to scrape together enough $$ for a guide but with the seemingly high guide fees in this area and a son...

    Can you tell already?

I think this time of year the only thing that really gives you an idea of the finished product is mass. If you've got the start of a good wide frame with good mass as well and the big balls on the end hes most likely going to be a solid buck. If he doesn't look to have good mass, especially as...

    Unit 21 2nd season

Anyone hunt 21 2nd recently? How was the hunt? Any tips other than "pray for snow and if warm and dry go high"? How about the winter? I know Gunnison to the south and Wyoming to the north got hammered this winter but it looks like this part of CO just had a slightly above normal snowfall. Can...

    Unit 21 2nd season

My Grandpa, Dad and uncle used to hunt 21 in the 80's and 90's before it went to draw and I was able to make one trip in the early 90's before my Grandpa passed away. We started going 22 3rd season when it went draw because we knew the area and could hunt it every other year in the early to mid...

    Unit 22 3rd season

Used to be a good 3rd season hunt for the 1 or 2 Non-res points it took to draw it. Hunted it three times in the early 2000's but I haven't hunted it since 08 when the point creep started. I liked being able to hunt it every other year but not an area I would want to burn 8+ points on...

    Looking for Elk hunt

Not even close to illegal Dirty! Never seen anything in any states regulations that says you can't pay for a hunting partners expenses. Hell I've even bought a buddy's tag online for him because he didn't have a credit card and he just payed me back in cash. Not sure if dirty misunderstood what...

    Wy poaching

I'm going to have to agree with Tri. I'm not saying it was too harsh or I don't think he should have got more either. But 9k would hurt and 7 years of not hunting my home state would kill me! Plus I'm sure there's a lot of shaming as everyone in his community knows the details of his highly...

    Nonresident Tags quota

Idaho has a "up to 10%" quota, not a guaranteed 10%. So yes sometimes it will be less then 10% but never more than.

Non-resident opinion of Wyo's Pref Pt system (elk/deer/lope)

I have horrible luck so I like anything that gives me a chance to draw a tag once before the same "lucky guys" draw the same tag 3 or 4 times like allways seems to happen to me in Idaho. Also I think it has been a good $$ maker for Wyoming, if they did not add the Elk/Deer/antelope when they did...

    Bumped out bucks?

I have seen many bucks during early archery season, that I have not bumped at all, that are no where to be found when I come back during rifle season. And I have seen good bucks get bumped out and I come back a couple days later and they are back in the same area. So in my opinion when you come...

    Any Refund Checks Yet?

If it's like past years it's way too early for Deer or Elk. I belive some folks started getting them around the middle of June the last few years, but I never get mine until the last week of June. I won't even start wondering about it until then.

    Mule Deer Management

    >FYI I think Nevada has employed >many of the management plans >you have advocated, especially in >terms of limited tags, focus >on more bucks, and limited >doe tags. FYI Nevada's Deer populations are INCREASING (Elk and Antelope are at all time highs) largely due to their management...

Tripled Quota-Would you return your tag?

Early hunt maybe, but one of the late hunts no way! They still do not give out very many tags for most of the good late hunts. Even if they do double, triple or even go up five times they will not be as crowded as alot of other states hunts.

    For or against ndow rec

Too broad of a question. Some I'm for, some against, but it may not matter anyway because if it is like the past they will be reduced greatly by the time the final #s come out.

    Motorized Vehicle Rule in Idaho

I totally agree with Ron. If you want to limit the harvest, limit the tags! Don't come up with sometimes confusing rules (that some folks are not going to obey anyways) and try to limit success rates buy restricting this and that or just shortening season lengths to reduce harvest. I'm still not...

    Unit 22 3rd season Deer/Elk

Been there a few times 3rd season in the last 6 or 7 years and I would not waste my $$ on an Elk tag, saw very few cows and no Bulls. And with the point creep for Deer we are starting to look for a new area where we can find decent Elk hunting and hunt Deer more than every 3 or 4 years.

Would Residents Care about NR Point System?

I have found that some guys will say no way to a point system no matter what the set-up is. I agree with you and for years have been saying that we could get all the money needed from a non-resident point system to finally start managing our herds and cutting tags where they need to be cut.

    2011 Wyo Elk Season

    >Thanks. I am building points >with my 3 son's. >Have 3pt's with 2011. BPK you hypocrite! Arent you always on the Idaho forum bad mouthing point systems and fighting against Idaho implementing one for Non-residents? But its all good for you and your boys to get points in Wyoming huh?

    unit 22

If you have a "few" (3 or 4) resident points I would not use them in 22. There are better areas close by in my opinion that you could draw or would be close to drawing including 10 & 21 2nd seasons (even though 21 is not what it was a few years back). You could draw 30 2nd and even your close to...

    Wolf in California?

    suggestion for IF&G

Idahoshedhead I agree, I'm O for 12 years and I sure dont put in for any of the 40's for deer or elk. But F&G also is wanting more revenue then they have been getting lately. Points seems to me to be the only anserw. It would both help us with our bad luck and bring in more $$ mostly from...

    1076 youth hunt idaho

Just a quick ?, It's not on a JR Mentored lic. and tag is it? Because if it is an adult would have to accompany the youth and have a tag for the same area and season so that would narrow your choice down quite a bit.

Up to 0-20 On Controlled tags!

Great for you and your daughter greatbasin! Nobody has said that anyone lucky enough to draw tags should feel guilty and take it upon themselves to make the system more fair and spread the tags around. You should keep applying and so will I, I don't hate you I hate the system (and my bad Luck).
