Don't think there is any bad spots in that unit. There are a lot of deer up high. If it snows the deer will most likely stay mid level were the pinon and oaks meet. Ive seen does every where from the base of the Mountain to the top. Good luck should be a quick hunt!

Any tips on hunting 5B. First time to draw this area. I guided 5B on a ranch several years ago but never hunted the NF. I'm sure I can locate bulls bugling but a stating point would be nice!

That's a great hunt. You might try to hunt near the four way at Slaughter Mesa. Get up early and listen for bugles before daylight. Then try and determine the route the elk are taking to bed. You need a good pair of boots the ground is loaded with lava rock. Watching the wind is more important...

I hunted elk in 2B several years ago in September. I didn't see any deer. I was told however by another hunter that resident deer tend to be near the boarder of the Apache Rez south of the the highway to Dulce. Hope that helps and good luck.
