    More 12A West Early success.

Great bucks! You got to hunt for nine days and you both took great bucks at the end, gotta be happy with that.

    12a west early rifle

Here's my buck from the early rifle hunt. As the handle implies, I live in Washington but have hunted coues with family in Arizona for many years. This year I decided to mix it up a bit and applied for the early rifle Kaibab tag. I drove down (18 hours) Wednesday before the opener, scouted...

    Early Kaibab Success!

Not sure why it shows just the one post. I've been a member for 10+ years, but I haven't posted in awhile so maybe it deleted my prior posts? Anyway, I wound up getting my buck that evening. Just south from where you were. He wasn't the big wide one I saw run towards you guys...that's why...

    Early Kaibab Success!

Great work! I'm pretty sure my two buddies and I watched you pack out your buck, we were talking with your BIL when you walked up the hill with your pack, and we all gave your BIL grief for taking the light load. :) Did your BIL fill his tag?

    Deer draw results

Unfortunately in AZ, as a NR just getting started, you're banking on them changing the rules if you want to draw 13A. Until there's a rule change, you literally have zero chance of drawing - no amount of luck can help that.

I got a CC hit. Should have been in the max pool for the late 33 coues tag.

    NM Unit 17 muleys?

Anyone hunt NM Unit 17? We're headed down there the second week of November. We scouted the north end of the San Mateos over the summer and the deer were all up high. Any thoughts on other areas/ elevations to consider for a November hunt? Is the south end of the San Mateos worth looking at...

    Roosevelt Strategies

Angry Spike Productions puts out a roosevelt video that I watched last week. For less than $15, might be a good place to start. I'll be hunting roosies for the first time this year as well, so the video was good to get a feeling for what it's like. They bugled to locate bulls, then...

    WA state multiseason tags....2nd chance?

Not sure why they would have said that the only announcement was the press release since I clearly remember getting my multi season permit info from the FAQ page mentioned above. I applied in February, so it was at least on there at that time. Also, I don't know if you fish, but those...

Agreed. I knew about it well in advance, so did everyone else I know. On the plus side, you do get a gold star for winning the longest post award. ;-)

    Chiwawa/ Swakane scouting

All - we recently bought some property in the Chiwawa unit, so I'm planning to start focusing my deer hunting in the general area. I haven't hunted anywhere in the neighborhood since I was about 14 - we hunted Mud Creek a few years in the late 80's, and that's about the extent of my hunting...

    > The deer dont seem >as good to me unless >like you said you have >alot of time to hunt. > I actually don't have that much time to hunt. That darn job always seems to get in the way. Case in point - I rifle hunted last year and had to cancel out on my opening weekend plans two days...

    Washington multi season tags

I think it's great. I drew the deer permit, and am holding out hope for elk on the re-draw. Personally, I feel it will have paid off if it simply gets me a couple additional days in the field regardless of whether I harvest anything. It will also help me with a couple of tough situations...

    3 point or better

Here's another vote in favor of WA's 3-point minimum. It's done wonders for the number of bucks we see (both big and small), the success rate, and the size of the bucks. My recollection is the rule went into effect around 1996. The rule might not make sense for all states, but WA's got...

WA multiple season results are out

I've got the same mistake in my letter. I'm guessing they just used the elk letter as the base when they drafted the deer letter and forgot to change "elk" to "deer" in that one line.

WA multiple season results are out

I just confirmed my deer draw on the web folling tlake's instructions. Thanks for the info - that link sure isn't intuitive. Not sure how a title like "Selecting Hunt Choices for Special Hunt Permit Applications" would indicate that draw results were posted there.

WA multiple season results are out

I drew deer, but not elk. Stoked for the deer permit, but still hoping to draw the elk permit during the re-draws. For those who haven't called yet, I called the main number (360-902-2515) and they routed me to the licensing department, who gave me my results.

    WA Multi-Season???

Anybody know when the draw takes place? I'd love to get either the multi-season deer or elk tag. I'm generally archery hunting this year, but I have to "chaperone" a few recreational hunters during the general buck season, so might as well have a tag. Also, I drew an eastside bull permit last...

    Bad news AZArchery elk hunters

Good grief, I hope they do something about this. I'm a NR who has already plunked down the cash for the AZ OTC archery deer tag (for a January coues hunt). My resident cousin drew a Unit 8 bull tag that I'm planning to tag along on. Certainly would be fun to pack my bow since I've already got...

    Some more old time pics

Agreed, that one on the left is a savage model 99. Most of those that I know of were in .300 savage or .308. A model 99 300 savage was my first rifle. I don't hunt with it anymore, but it still shoots groups that touch at 100 yards. Kicker, thanks for the awesome old time pics. Two of my...

    What to do in Washington

Here's a second vote for the Yakima canyon. If you're already in Yakima, the canyon is a must stop to check out the big horns. Bring the binos and camera. Without trying too hard, you could easily see 100 sheep just driving through.

AZ results are up on the phone system

Nada for me. I had 6 NR points each for elk and speed goats. My resident cousin scored...unit 8 archery bulls, 19a archery goats. Lucky bugger! I think he had around 5 points for goats and 8 for elk. If I don't pull a tag elsewhere, I'll be sherpa on that unit 8 hunt. Sometimes tagging...

    Tipping a taxidermist???

Does the guy get a lot of taxidermy work done? Since it's not regular practice, I bet the taxidermist will remember him next time. I'm sure the difference between a really good job and a great job takes quite a bit of additional time and detail...maybe he just wants to make sure he gets the...

    AZ NONRESIDENT POLL

I'm in for the long haul, but I take a much different approach than most of you. The sport of hunting...not just killing 200" muleys or 400" bulls...is my passion. I've bought an AZ license for one hunt or another (including javelina) for the last 8 years - basically since I got a job and...

    Tony Stewart ....

I think you guys are a bit too skeptical. Out west hunting elk and muleys, yes, it's pretty hard to pick out an individual animal that you're going to pursue. But back east chasing whitetails that, even in fair chase conditions, are creatures of habit and generally live their entire life in one...

Best State to Live in ?????????????????

Re the OTC question, most of the western states have gone to permit only for elk and largely for deer, for both residents and non-residents. I'll let others give you the specifics in their states, but I can give you the basics for WA and AZ. In WA, with some exceptions, you can rifle hunt...

Best State to Live in ?????????????????

Big time college football in Provo...? As opposed to WA, OR, or Cal? Or Boulder? Or Boise? Anyway, trying to stay focused. To me, there's a big difference between the Rocky Mtn. states and the Pacific states. If you're interested in being around the ocean and fishing for migratory fish...

    another SeaTac airport question!!

I think 1.5+ hrs as a worst case scenario down I-5 is a good estimate. On Wednesday afternoon/evening, the M's were getting out after a day game, Real Madrid was playing that night at 'Hawks Stadium, and Tim McGraw and Faith Hill were playing that night in town. The estimated Lynnwood commute...
