Your .22 Mag will work fine. In fact, I would choose it over a 30-30 for hunting lions over hounds. The reason is that it won't leave a big exit hole in the pelt for your taxidermist to attempt to hide. A double lung shot with a .22 mag dispatches lions quickly and humanely.

I heard of one killed Tuesday on the Cache unit that I was told weighed a hair over 160 lbs., not huge by big tom standards but I suspect it'll be the biggest cat killed on the unit this year.......cats die young around here. Lack of snow in the high country has kept the lion and deer population...
