Kaibab archery tag. Can't believe it took this long to get the pending charge on the CC? I talked to other NRs last Saturday with pending charges fro the same tag.

Kaibab Archery Point Creep Big Time

I'm a NR applicant with seven points going in...and had all but given up hope. To my surprise, the pending charge hit my credit card this morning...July 1st. Strange turn of events....but I'll take it!

Any idea when the tags will be mailed?

Finally received my Utah LE deer tag yesterday (July 22nd). Was getting a bit concerned, so called them last week. They said all the LE tags which require completion of an orientation course get mailed later than the rest in order to give people time to complete the orientation. Rep said I would...

    Shipping to AK

I've mailed camp to remote Alaska twice...both times in boxes, not crates, and used USPS both times with no issues. Suggest shipping a month in advance if shipping Parcel Post or two weeks in advance for Priority Mail. Expected delivery dates will be shorter, but better safe than sorry IMO...

    Henry Mountains Archery Management tag

Appreciate it BrowningRage. The more I hear about the Henry Mountains, the higher the anticipation level. If it weren't for the Alaska trip, I'd spend a month up there! Don't get me wrong, I absolutely love Alaska....but this is my 3rd trip in eight years....and black bear don't hold a candle...

    Henry Mountains Archery Management tag

Good day. Had the good fortune to draw the non-resident archery management buck tag in the Henry Mountains. That's the good news. Bad news, I'm going to miss the first week of season due to a coastal black bear hunt in Alaska. Still, that leaves two full weeks of hunting. Typically, I would...

    Waders for moose hunt

I'll be on the Kenai in August for a boat based black bear hunt. Was told by the transporter hip boots or waders are a must have. I just can't imagine hunting all day in hip boots or chest waders? Found a product called Chota Tundra Hippies...which are a more robust version of their original...

Utah General Deer Units - Archery Specific

Well, based on the pending charge on my credit card, it appears the drought of drawing a LE Utah buck tag is over. Not going to be completely convinced until I see the actual draw results, but it appears I drew the NR archery management buck tag in the Henry Mountains!

Utah General Deer Units - Archery Specific

Appreciate the feedback! Honestly, I have been looking south primarily due to winter kill reports from the north a few years back. Understand what you are saying about the heat..especially combined with limited scouting potential. Admittedly, while I am getting better at it, glassing is...

Utah General Deer Units - Archery Specific

Living 1,500+ miles away makes it tough to get boots on the ground. As mentioned, I typically would show up a week prior to the hunt and that is the extent of my physical scouting. That makes selecting the right unit up front so critical. I realize what I'm saying makes some guys cringe at the...

Utah General Deer Units - Archery Specific

Appreciate the feedback guys. I realize nothing beats laying down some boot leather to gain intel, but the fact I live in Indiana makes that very difficult. Honestly, I'm typically hunting a new location every year. Tried pre-season scouting trips, but have learned that extending my hunt dates...

Utah General Deer Units - Archery Specific

Good day. Submitted all my NR Utah apps yesterday...so this thread is not about the 2019 hunting seasons...but beyond, possibly as soon as 2020...maybe later? The older I get, the worse my odds get of ever drawing a LE archery deer tag in Utah. Guess I can live with that reality, but I still...

    Bino debate

I just went through the exact same process you describe. Came down to the big three (Zeiss, Leica and Swarovski. Wound up buying the Swaros...with Leica Ultravids coming in a very close second. Based on my research, I'm not convinced Zeiss is not the best glass, but also read more than one...

    What help would you take?

LAST EDITED ON Apr-04-17 AT 05:26AM (MST)[p]Depends what and where I'm hunting. To date, I have never used a guide for big game hunting. For elk specifically, I cannot envision hiring a guide...at least not until I'm too old to pack a bull off the mountain myself! I'm a DIY guy that typically...

What are your thoughts? Archery Elk

As has already been mentioned, bubbles in the blood doesn't necessarily mean lungs. The fact the bull refused to climb is a good sign. You did the right thing by backing out. Hopefully you will find him today...laying dead in his 1st bed. Best of luck!

    Out of order choices

I'm not buying. I applied for the same season dates and same weapon across the board. My hunt codes are sequential (lowest to highest)...but hunt choices are not (3,1,2). If both my hunt codes and hunt choices would have been out of order....that might have made me a believer.

    What would this bull score

LAST EDITED ON Jan-24-16 AT 02:59AM (MST)[p]My 2015 bull grosses right at 330"....and this one looks alot like him...but with better splits. I'm not the best at field judging elk, but my guess would be 330"+. Everyone else is seeing less antler, what am I missing?

    Unit 39

Corrected my post...2013 was the year I was thinking about. I had NR friends hunting in 38 late September and got ran off the mountain by snow. Another friend that lived in 40 had a Type 1 tag in 2013 and said his options were very limited the entire season due to the snow. The north end of...

    Unit 39

Your odds of drawing 39 as a NR with 6 points are hit and miss. Only one NR drew 39 last year with 6 points and that was in the special draw. If you want to bowhunt this year, take TOPGUN's advice and look at a 40-9 tag. Decent shot at a tag in the regular draw and very good odds in the...

One Pack that will do it all

Bought a Kifaru Mountain Warrior pack and frame over the summer. Used it for the first time in Wyoming last September. Very comfortable in daypack mode and is absolutely the best pack I've ever used for hauling heavy loads.

    How Wide? (Moose)

Hey Ike. I'm no expert on field judging moose either. Read online the distance between the eyes on a bull moose is 10". If accurate, the spread/eye ratio in that photo indicates low-mid 30's. Saw my best bull on 10/5 in 2013. That's today....good luck! Paul

    Score ?

I just taped my bull out at 330" gross....and the one in the photo has better 3rds and splits. I'm going to say that bull is at least 340" gross....maybe closer to 350"?

    Moose Rut...?!?

Hunted Area 5 in 2013. Saw some mild rutting activity in late September. Killed my bull on October 3rd...but still don't believe the rut was anywhere near "peak" yet. Thinking I was done about a week early?

Bowhunted the Books for elk in 2010. Coming from Indiana, got my last minute supplies and fuel in Colorado...so no help there. I did drive both Hay Canyon Road and East Canyon Road though. Took Hay Canyon Road in and left on East Canyon Road. Hay Canyon Road was decent, but narrow. I was...

    Points Only Question

The answer depends on the type of point you are talking about. If you are talking preference points (which are used in the general draw), those can be purchased for $50 without applying. Preference point only option opens July 1st and rune through September I believe. Given the fact Montana...
