A few years back, I found several nice bucks in the same canyon. Most years, this place held a few nice ones. Unfortunately, all these bucks perished due to the harsh winter that year. Also unfortunately, the road was closed a few years later, and I haven't been able to get in there anymore. The last few pics are not as good due to snowy conditions.

One day I found this nice buck courting some does. He was quite lovesick.

A few years ago, I found this buck chasing some does around. He posed nicely.

Back 2018, I took a drive and found several nice bucks one day. Here they are. BTW, this was after the last hard winter of '16-'17. Several nice bucks made it through that winter, as opposed to this past winter. The difference is stark.

Slim and Cyclops. Late February. Slim was a major factor in a fight. I never saw another buck square up with him. They always backed down, even much bigger bucks. I guess they all knew with that slim rack he could get inside and cause some real damage.

I should let everyone who cares know that that peak in the background is probably 30? miles behind those elk. A very distorted view that you can never see with your eyes.

My red tails showed up at the nest again this year. I wonder where they go. Swallow’s and martins should be in a couple of weeks. I put out 4 new bluebird houses as this year’s habitat improvement project.

I put some water back to the trees, try to spray a few weeds, and keep the varmits trained to stay away so I figgered a few more bluebirds is a nice touch. I just try to be a good neighbor while I’m squatting here on the winter range.

I kept looking around later that day and found these bucks to take pics of. I'm not including pics of every nice buck I came across that day. The difference between 4-5 years ago and today is saddening. Actually from last winter to this past winter is very disheartening.

Next trip I found these bucks. That 3x3 is one of the biggest bodied bucks I've laid eyes on. What a beast. The rut is hard on these bucks. They beat each other up pretty good. Lots of eye injuries. Notice the big patch of hide missing on the one buck.
