Fox’s John Roberts just reported that Trump’s name will be printed in the memo section on all the economic impact check’s being sent out.

Unreal, but not surprising. Take credit for all good, blame all bad on someone else.
 
Yeah, but what does the direct deposit say? Nobody gets paper checks anymore. I would seriously consider framing mine if I got one. I have a Obama tee shirt, autographed picture of Mr Reagan, and a Spiro Agnew mickey-mouse watch. :cool:
 
On second thought, the Prez should demand an option for a US Savings Bond with his pitcher on it. Then we could keep it forever and might still be worth something. :unsure:
 
When you're a tax "payer" the IRS doesn't have your deposit info and you get a paper check in an instance like this.

He should be proud of what he and his team has done with the stimulus checks. Obama took months and months to get his rolling and to taxpayers. Trump, and the rest of our elected officials did well to make it happen quick....real quick.

Trump is an unreal case to try to figure out !! Best to not even try otherwise your mind will warp too. They could get a trainload of shrinks to try to analyze him & never come up with any answers for all his weirdness & phobias & God knows what all. To think he suckered his way into office because of all the people with no spines & no ethics & no moral values , beyond crazy. Let's hope this round coming up in Nov will return sanity to the USA. Obama‘s stimulus checks were minimal and only to recipients of a few federal programs. He didn’t have any broad spectrum stimulus checks like this, though there was a roughly $400 tax credit that most everyone got in the form of reduced withholding. The stimulus checks that went out to most everyone during that crisis were in 2008, under Bush.

I don't begrudge anyone thrown out of work or business from taking the money because the government including Trump shut them down, but IMO it is stupid to argue over who gets credit for cranking up the printing presses to keep the masses from rioting in the streets. Some longer term thinking should be taking place on what this kind of thing will permanently change.

Tell me now, what is the conservative argument now for smaller government, less government intrusion, sound fiscal and monetary and keeping government out of health care? Actions have consequences and if one is to only judge the President on what he does and not what he says, then he has thrown almost every conservative argument about what the role of government is, out the window. Why would he want to own the praise or the blame for that?

I don't think that Trump has any thoughts of ownership on the stimulus funds, it just might be a gig in the ass of his haters though...lol. His name isn't the "signatory" it's on the memo part. Those that receive paper checks will be signed by an official with the Bureau of Fiscal Service. Those set up with direct deposit through the IRS will get theirs that way. No Trump to be seen on those!

Has it ever been done before, the name? No clue, but that 1200.00, which hasn't been delayed no matter what the hand-wringing leftists are whining about, will spend just fine. Hell, about a month or so ago I was handed a 20 dollar bill with Michelle Obama written between the lower denominations. Hate the Obamas, but you know, that 20 went toward a bottle of Lagavulin 16 year old single malt. Spent just like any other 20. Go figure.

If there were any delays, you can thank that vapid loser Pelosi and her sycophantic minions' insistence on adding another trillion in pork to the stimulus. You see, the left is still trying to be relevant, and after their 3.5 year failed coup attempt, I get a kick out of watching them rend and tear their cloth when he breaks it off in their asses like he does.

Are you talking bank account? I don't get a stimulus check. Heck, I pay more in PROPERTY TAXES alone on ONE of my buildings than the per capita income of the county in which I live (I only reveal that because it's public record for those that care to look).

And that's not even scratching the surface of the other taxes I pay like income, payroll, sales, etc... But there will be no "stimulus check" coming my way.

And I've kept every one of my employees at full pay... even those that have had reduced hours due to an inability to perform their jobs because of other people's fear of CV. I told them I wasn't going to make this overreaction harm them personally.

This country is built on people who start their own businesses and employ others. If you want to try and attack somebody, starting with me is the wrong place to go with it. I recommend you move on because I've earned the right to every opinion I have on that albatross you so idolize.

My computer model says open the economy before we don't have an economy to open. I don't think we're that far away from that prospect.

The computer models the experts put forth were wildly inaccurate probably by design to scare people into behaving a certain way. What better way to get people to stay home & social distance than for the "expert scientists" to proclaim - if you don't behave this way... millions of you are going to die! The problem with using scary model numbers you know to be false in order to get people to behave a certain way is that it only works once. Now virtually nothing will convince people, especially those that have lost their jobs, livelihoods, businesses and their paychecks to continue to hide under their beds. Trust is a fickle bit$% and what if the next virus is on par with the Spanish flu or widespread ebola? Early lock down orders will get the finger. What's this lying around chit?
 
As of a week ago, 38 people lost their jobs for every 1 person diagnosed with CV-19 in the USA.

I think we were screwed with bad info from China and Trump made the best decision he could with the info he had... and the effects of that are a destroyed economy.

I give latitude to the people making those decision. I gave Bush latitude for the bailouts as he was risking a Depression. All Trump can do is look at the projections given, which was millions of dead Americans, and make the best decision he can based on that info. I don't fault him for being cautious early on as no President should risk that many lives. That's nuclear war on US soil numbers of dead Americans if it were true. And all he can do is listen to the experts.

However, if he gets the glory for the successes (shutting down travel from China early) then he gets the criticism from the repercussions that go with it (massive economic volatility). A true leader owns his decisions. Trump was either prescient for acting quickly, or he's guilty of overreacting before he had the correct info. He was either right or wrong, but he made decisions with far-reaching consequences that may take years to overcome. And he owns those decisions.

It's dishonest to say this was an overreaction but to also say Trump (who declared he has the sole authority on the matter and bragged he acted quickly because he always knew it was a pandemic) was blameless when it was HIS overreaction.

Trump has taken credit for the decisions to shut down the country early; if you feel it's an overreaction... then it's Trump's overreaction. Nobody else's. Remember, his "authority is total" on when the economy is shut down and opens back up. He owns this. For better or worse.

Fox is reporting that evidence is mounting that the animal/human transmission occured in a Chinese laboratory, which we all suspected.

Other sources are advancing this line as well. The domestic lockdown of Wuhan while international travel continued is particularly suspicious.

If true, I don't think this makes things better.

Now the theory is Xi decided to "share" it so as to not economically hurt only China.

Thus the 175,000 traverscout of Wuhan AFTER China knew.

It's more than a theory. There is video of them playing with the particular bat in that lab. Apparently State Department cables discussing it in 2015

I think Trump is getting more blame (or credit, depending on your point of view) than he deserves for the shutdown. Many states, and more so individual counties, cities, and individual businesses were shutting down before he ever made his announcement. Granted, his announcement spurred more state and local governments to enact stay at home orders, but it isn’t as though it was a new idea to anyone by the time he made the first 15 days to flatten the curve or whatever announcement. The federal government should be a small part of the plan to “re-open”, but the details of when and how should come from smaller entities at the state, local and individual business level because a one size fits all approach that a federal level plan would mean is unlikely to be the best way for everywhere. I think his mixed messaging and general incoherent rambling has added to the unease, but I think the unease would be there regardless of who is running the government. Digging out of this mess is going to take a while. The healthcare industry is going to be in rough shape for a while. The facility I work at has historically been in great financial shape, especially considering that we are a small community hospital. Our financials looked great 2 months ago, but a huge amount of spending to be ready for the effects of CV, and the shutting down/dramatically decrease of the revenue generating service lines (like elective surgery etc..) has us looking at layoffs and very tight financial times ahead. That is going on in most of the country- some departments are busy, and some staff are able to be moved to meet the needs of this, but overall healthcare utilization is way down outside the very hot spots.

The media needs to STFU, and politicians need to stop playing doctor. There is nothing but a sea of bad information out there. That goes for media of all political slants, and politicians of all colors- red, blue, and orange.

The shotgun approach was wrong. The only ones that should have been laying low were the elderly and those with respiratory issues. The rest of us should have been allowed to march on!

If you depend on international travel, trade, tourism, any of the restrictions implemented by CDC regarding social distancing, etc... then it's federal. If you depend on the parts of the economy affected by state and local restrictions... it's state and local.

The point is that even if a President can use Emergency Powers to shut a bakery down, that doesn't mean he has the power to overrule the local health department and force it to open back up.

Trump has no power to force all the international manufacturing to open back up to supply our businesses and economy here, no matter what he says. For example, the automotive industry is dead until parts manufacturing overseas is up and running again. And there's nothing we can do to force those countries to open their plants. Maybe we can get Mexico to pay for it though ?
 
We could fix the immigration thing if even a tiny part of that manufacturing was moved to Mexico. And I'll bet some of our American companies could even supply the raw materials.

The point is that even if a President can use Emergency Powers to shut a bakery down, that doesn't mean he has the power to overrule the local health department and force it to open back up.

Trump has no power to force all the international manufacturing to open back up to supply our businesses and economy here, no matter what he says. For example, the automotive industry is dead until parts manufacturing overseas is up and running again. And there's nothing we can do to force those countries to open their plants. Maybe we can get Mexico to pay for it though ?

Trump on May 1 saying we are open means governors will follow.

Liberal governors will hold out thinking they are going to score political points. Witmer and Cuomo have a Precidency to run for.

I doubt direct flights to Wuhan will open anytime soon.

I assume you're referring to Trump trying to force Congress into recess to make appointments without Congressional oversight? When Obama tried to make those appointments, McConnell blasted him for it. The Supreme Court overruled it with even liberal Justice Breyer chastising Obama for overstepping. It was so illegal that the liberal justices ruled against Obama ?

But every good autocrat tries to dismantle the Legislature to gain more power. And now Trump's using CV-19 as an excuse to do it too.

Why do Trump supporters always try and justify his actions by pointing to Obama doing similar things? It's happened about five times in the last few threads? Does that mean they supported it when Obama did it? Does that mean Trump is like Obama? I don't get the connection.

And on the recess appointments, Obama's were ruled by the US Supreme Court to be illegal. Any bets I can find Rush and Hannity criticizing it when Obama did it?

Your National Monument argument above was especially weak. Congress specifically voted to grant the President that right in 1906 under the Antiquities Act. National Monuments aren't don't without Congressional oversight, Congress literally gave them that right.... one Congress could take away if they wanted as well. I wonder why the Republicans didn't do that when they had both Chambers and the White House.

There was no invocation of martial law.

If Trump has no power, then Governors openly circumvented the B of R and the constitution.

Hoss, you have a really bad habit of jumping to conclusions and putting words in people's mouths. Just because somebody dislikes Trump doesn't mean they like Obama. Just because somebody thinks Trump doesn't have power doesn't mean he thinks the governor's do. You need to slow down and realize we live in a complex world where not everything is black/white, blue/red, right/wrong, smart/dumb.

And on top of that, we have a bunch of moving targets with massive webs of unintended consequences and far-reaching effects. I wrote an entire post above about how I give Trump latitude and don't blame him for his decisions because he was only working with the info we had at the time. I recommend you attempt to view the world through a deeper lens than what you're hearing on whatever talk radio station or podcast you have going at the time.

Honestly. Because I've found him to be level headed in the subjects discussed in this forum. We've disagreed like we have everywhere else.

He literally has been wrong at every turn.. He was wrong on my original post in Feb. He was wrong when he talked about 3.4 % death rate, then 2.7.

He bristles at TDS but my god, he now to the point that as a buisness owner, with numerous employees, he is willing to piss it away to dunk on Trump.

Im shocked.

He watches whats ACTUALLY happening in the world. 22 million unemployed. And he's concerned I called Witmer a two bit dictator, or someone said "chink".

Is it fare that Congress goes and hide behind their closed doors when Health Care Professionals, First Responders, Police and Grocery Stores Workers just to name a few have to show up and do there work. Just like Hoss has been saying on many threads the ones that make the decision to shut the buisness down and then hide behind close doors when they know they will get a check even if they don't show up to work.
What would happen if all grocery stores closed and refused to open for buisness, I will tell you what would happen they would be arrested for treason and the government would force the stores open.
The United States Congress just passed what most people consider as one of the most important bills in the history of the US and congress could not show up to vote, why because they our scared.
The Democrats our holding up congress inorder to stop President Trump in a time of the country that is most vulnerable since the Great Depression. The President should call Congress back on a direct order to get this Country running again and any Congressman/Congresswoman that does not show up will be charged with treason against the United States of America.

Wait a second! I thought a minute ago I was guilty of supporting him when he was overreacting with all of his closures so early on! But, remember, he know this was a pandemic the whole time and he acted quickly to save lives. His words, not mine!

And for the record, I never made a prediction on death rate. I took the info we had at the time (that we now know to be wrong, but it's what we had which is why Trump overreacted like he did) and applied the math to your assertion that every American would get it.

Trump's death rate and your full infection rate equaled millions dead. Remember the "it's just math" conversation?

Thankfully, the math was wrong... making this a massive overreaction and one that should be quickly corrected. But as I've said repeatedly, I don't blame Trump for it as he only could use the info we had at the time.

At this point, it's our local officials that are hurting us more than Trump. And, where you and I live, they're all Republican. But I know you're honest enough that you still criticize them for it, and I'm grateful for that.
