    Durable mechanical

I switched this past year from Grimm Reapers to Ulmer Edge. They have a set screw that you can use so the blades don't deploy. I set a couple up and practice with those. I have also shot one without the set screw just to make sure. I have not had a chance at an elk yet, but smacked a good buck...

    Killing all the cows

LAST EDITED ON Oct-15-14 AT 08:23AM (MST)[p]Here's my two cents...I have hunted this area for the past 30 yrs. Killed a lot of elk here. back in the hay day we used to see 50 to 100 head of elk the first few days of the hunt then the elk did what elk do and became scarce. The last few years we...

    Grim reaper broadheads?

I have used them as well. I shot and elk last year and the results were awesome. I whacked a coyote this year with one. Of course yotes are not really something to put a broadhead of any kind to the test, but it worked great. I will use them in the future.

    Thermacell

I have mixed feelings on this one. I bought one for use in the mountians. About about 8500 feet, there are issues getting it lit. When contacting thermacell about the problem, they say that they are not designed for operations in high altitude. I tried getting it lit once up a Pass lake in the...

LAST EDITED ON Mar-07-11 AT 09:33AM (MST)[p]I hunted with a fanny type pack for years and loved it. I just switched to a back pack though. Even for day trips. I found that when good fortune smiles on me I would have to go back to the truck for pack boards. With the fanny pack it was just an...

    Gps

I have had a couple different Garmins. A couple of years ago I had the etrex. Worked great as long as I wasn't in thick timber. I was on a 50 mile backpack trip in the Uinta Mountains and lost signal several times in thick cover. Another guy had the Garmin 60csx and had a good signal the...

    elk hunting

In 08 there were a couple of 360ish bulls that came off that unit. My Dad and I got a couple bulls off there. Mine was 300ish but Dads scored 362. We ran into another hunter who killed a bull bigger than my Dads bull. That being said, we didn't see lots elk. I did a ton of homework, talked to...

I smacked a bull on the Pauns last year that was simular. It even had an extra point growing out of the skull behind the antler that grew from its forehead. Its an awesome pedistal mount. If I can get a web ready photo I will send it. Congrats on a successful hunt.

A friend of mine has drawn 2 cow tags there. I was lucky enogh to go along and help out. On those hunts he was given a weekend to get his elk. It was mid November. He could only take one other person along. There is good access if there is no snow. If there is snow you will need chains and...

    Deer Grunts And Doe Bleets?

I have used the call mentioned earlier by Eastmans with some success. It is great for stopping deer. I have called in lots of does and smaller bucks. There is a simular elk call made the same way that makes great cow calls. That one works too.
