    Utah Elk Management Plan

The spike elk hunting on the Bookcliffs has destroyed the elk hunt on those two units.

    POLL: Utah Trail Camera Ban

Kind of strange the private landowners can still have cameras out. Maybe a wildlife board member had something to do with that? I'm for rights, but this is fishy.

    Utah Trail Cam Ban

Obviously many of you hunt different areas than I do. No cell service where I go. Nothing being sent to my phone. If you don't all realize this is just one more step against hunting in general. It don't seem like a big deal, then next year or two the dates change. Then an all together ban...

Hunting gear found on the mountain????

Found a pair of binoculars in a road this fall. Left them on the side of the road where I found them sitting on some rocks I stacked so hopefully the owner would return and find them. They were gone a few hours later. Don't know if the right person found them, but hope so. Found a bedroll in...

    HAMS BOOKCLIFFS

This hunt is a joke. From someone who spends a lot of time on this unit, there are few deer and to make a hunt to kill the few deer that remain is simply not sound management. There will be a good buck killed once in a while, but I can only hope that the hunters who draw this tag will not...

    Watch today's Wildlife Board meeting

There have been many people wait 20 years to have a chance at a 350 type bull on the Bookcliffs. 5-6 years ago, that was possible. Now a chance for a 350 bull is slim at best. Why, because of the spike hunt. Get rid of the spike hunt, the draw odds will go back to less than 20 years to draw...

    Utah LE hunt

It all depends on what type of hunt you want. The packing in and hunting from horses is what you want as the experience, the roadless Bookcliffs can be a fun hunt. If you are wanting a truly big bull, I'm sorry to say the Bookcliffs is going to be tough. As someone who hunts the Bookcliffs...

    Watch today's Wildlife Board meeting

The Bookcliffs elk are in trouble. As someone who spent over 100 days on the unit hunting and or scouting this year alone. Over the past 25 years I have spent close to that many days on the unit each year as well. For several decades the DWR drew somewhere around 200 big bull tags each season...

    Book Cliffs Roadless

If you have 17 points this year and the people who put in last year put in again and no other people in your point area were to put in, you have 13 applicants ahead of you for 10 tags and will have 12 with 17 this year. I know that is not realistic to say people won't change were they apply...

    Book Cliffs Roadless

Let the DWR hear about the point creep and now allowing spike hunters to hunt all three seasons. Even if it only results in 5 more spikes to be harvested this year in the roadless, that is 5 more mature bull tags that can't be issued in 5-6 years.

Wall tent our outfitter camp tent????

I have bought some extra heavy duty canvas tarps online and they seem to work the best for me. The ones I bought were coated with a water repellent that smelled some when first used, but that has gone away for the most part. I got the last ones from myteeproducts.com. I do have one tent with...

    fishing the Roadless Bookcliffs

Last year, the fish in She Canyon from the junction of Bogart and She finally are looking big enough to catch. Haven't fished it in several years, but I did see enough fish to perk my interest once again. I don't know I would consider any of the Bookcliffs a blue ribbon fishery, but a fishable...

LE Rifle Hunt - Book Cliffs North or South Area?

There are more tags given on the Bookcliffs both North and South than the unit can sustain quality with. The quality has dropped over the last several years and if tag numbers continue, it will not get better. The age of the average buck harvested is not one of producing large bucks.

I have used Superformance and the previous Light or Heavy Magnum for years with good success. It shoots good in every gun I've shot it through. 300 Win Mag with 180 grain for deer and elk, 270 with 130 grain for deer, elk and bear, 30-06 in 150 for dear and 180 for elk, and 243 for deer. All...

    Book Cliffs Muzzy Hunt

Agreed on the Bookcliffs could be a whole lot better. 5-10 years ago things were a lot better. Had hunters taking bucks over 200" and many others with opportunities to take great bucks. The age structure of bucks now is way to young. Coyotes are thick, bears are abundant, and way to many...

All three are Bookcliffs animals. Not this past year though. One roadless elk, one road late season bull, and the buck is off the south side on rifle. If that 1st bull is a 6 year old Bookcliffs bull, boy would I have liked to see him in another 3 or 4 years. Funny thing is we have sheds...

Book Cliffs or West Desert Vernon Deer

I can't speak much about the Vernon, seeing I haven't set foot on it for probably 25 years, but the Bookcliffs does have some great bucks. I can't see anyone saying a 180 typical or a 200 non typical isn't a trophy. They aren't everywhere, but they are there. I have guided two muzzleloader...
