I'm interested in hearing about the condition of the herd in 63. Anyone who lives nearby or has hunted it in the last few years. Declining or on the upswing? Looking for a quicker turnaround on my trips to Colorado and points-wise, this unit works. Any thoughts are appreciated and if you...

2011 Monroe NR Archery story (success)

Two down and 1 tag to go. With just a couple of days left, Chase took off for home while Hunter and I hit the hills around Dayton for one more elk. As I have mentioned, it's deffinately, more gun friendly than archery. but, we hit those areas where we had a little more cover. I had to...

2011 Monroe NR Archery story (success)

After missing low twice, we check the bow and Chase was dead on out to 60. Hmmmmm We hit the mountain well before light not far from were we chased the big 6. Maybe 3/4th of a mile. We had two bulls that we were after, both slightly smaller than that big 6. The first play was in a saddle. We...

2011 Monroe NR Archery story (success)

Thanks guys, Rick I can assure you that the smile on Chase's face is no smaller now than it was the last time you saw him. And why not, he had 2 points to draw this tag. I figured it at a .58% chance of drawing! The next few days had us in bulls morning and night. Many of the best sounding...

2011 Monroe NR Archery story (success)

The next morning was a quick run up to the big lake area and we got into three bulls right off the bat. I don't know about the rest of you, but it takes me a few days before I shead the hub-bub of life and really get tuned in to nature. We made some moves that we wouldn't have made in a few...

2011 Monroe NR Archery story (success)

LAST EDITED ON Sep-25-11 AT 03:22PM (MST)[p]On September 1st, the three of us set out for the Dayton portion of our hunt. Utah Bonus Points

LAST EDITED ON Dec-30-10 AT 05:24PM (MST)[p]Because a person could do 'points' for several species and then once he's drawn a specie (Sheep) he could then switch one of his other speices to sheep and draw it again. And repeat that senario several times over. It would be like having 3 or 4 point...

    Unit 76 Debacle

Missed out on all the comotion. All I can say is, with as open and helpful rocketman has been to anybody that contacted him, this would seem way out of character for him. Having hunted that valley last year, all I can say is, if one stalk was blown (for whatever reason) I'm thinking to...

    aiming with a recurve bow?

Back in the old days, there were lot's of bows that had sights attached to them. Most were long 62+ inches but were also heavy enough to hunt with. Any recurve that is tapped on the riser for a quiver will take a sight there as well. Now, having said that, at least try instictive for a month...

Unethical Story in Field & Stream?

I concur with your statement that, in your eyes, it's unethical. I have the same ethic in this instince as long as I'm sure it's mortally wounded. Having said that and despite the unanimous posts so far, I really think most hunters have no ethical problem losing one and shooting another...

kind of funny any of you do this

It's kinda fun except for us when we get back tothe west side of Washington and roll into Bellevue/Seattle. A whole lot of waving going on, but it's usually a single finger wave. We cover-up on the pass and try not to draw too much attention the rest of the way home.
