+1 on the Tylenol PM, only when camping. I have a hard time sleeping in the back country as every noise at night I'm sure is a bear. Most of the guys I've taken with me over the years never go back for this reason. They just can't take the nights and the lack of sleep really takes the fun out...
I was able to buy a 63-2 right at 8:00am from home this morning, so there were some available. Was the type 2 new this year for unit 63? Is that why there were actually some left over for a decent public land unit?
I had to send out some props to the taxidermist I started using, Zane Osborn out of Manti. I'm impressed with his work, especially for the price($400). Zane did the buck on the right. I paid a lot more for my other mounts which I think are inferior.
I killed a nice black bear last year & looked at a lot of different taxidermist's full body bears before settling on Travis Roundy in Glendale UT. In my opinion, his bears were as good as the any & at a more reasonable price. I don't have it back yet but I can hardly wait. If I get it soon...
Thanks Cabinfever - I talked to Travis & he emailed me some pictures. His quality appears outstanding. Much better than some higher priced guys whose work I've looked at, so I think we're going to have him do the bears.
I just took a decent bear & I'm wondering who does a good bear life size mount in Utah? I have a friend that's still hunting so we're hoping to have them 2 mounted at the same time.
This is my first time ever hunting bear & I've had one bait station going for 2 weeks and another for a week without a hit in central Utah. I shouldn't be worried yet?
This happened to me a couple weeks ago. I found a good 7 point elk antler. Called a buddy over to help me find the other side. We look around & I spot an antler on the next ridge about 600 yards away. Assuming it's the other side we make our way over & my buddy finds a bigger 7 point shed on...
Just found out I drew a tag for Nebo spring bear - Archery. I've never hunted bear so if anyone is willing to provide some advice I'd greatly appreciate it. I'd like to set up a couple bait stations & hunt from a tree stand.
How early do you start baiting? What bait to use? How often do you...
For you guys that debone your mule deer, about how much weight in meat do you end up carrying out? Any suggestions on how to minimize the weight, but still take all the edible portions?
RE: Pronghorn watering times
We spent the night in a blind last year on a waterhole, only to wake up at first light to find 2 bucks bedded at about 35 yards. I was quite surprised as I have read that antelope don't really move around in the dark.
Here's the email I got from the DWR when I asked about the numbers.
"I flew several times with him this winter, counting them repeatedly to try to determine what percentage of the animals we are really seeing from an airplane. We were consistently counting ~2000 animals- and our current...
I've got an archery antelope tag this year & we went down Saturday to scout. I helped a couple friends on this same hunt last year & there were easily 4 or 5 times the number of animals a year ago. Does anyone know if they transplanted a bunch from here or would the animals be utilizing...
Wondering if anyone may be willing to share a starting point on unit 90(2) in Wyoming. It's my first ever pronghorn tag & I'm not very familiar with the area or types of terrain to focus my attention. Any help would be much appreciated.
