Joey,
I am having the velvet preserved. He is real close to 29", I didn't get a good measurement. I took him straight to the taxidermist, didn't want to handle it until it was preserved.
Chris
I have always thought that this is how the dates should fall. Give the archery hunters the 1st three weeks of September, then let the muzzleloaders hunt for 10 days, then the rifle hunters. I think if you took the rifle hunt out of the rut you would save a few of the big bulls. Right now they...

+1 1 shot, 1 kill for me.
I broke my tibula and fibula in 2 different places in July. I now have a rod(from my knee to my ankle), 5 screws, and a plate. It still has a long way to go before it is better, but it is improving. I don't know how good it will get, all I can do is hope for the best.
Good Luck
I am going to get me a side by side, but I can't decide which one. There are things I like and dislike about both. Which one would you recommend and why?
Thanks

Dutch,
If you like the Hoyt's, I have a Vectrix for sale. If you are interested let me know. It took me a long time to switch over to archery, but now I wouldn't go back.
LAST EDITED ON Oct-29-09 AT 11:51AM (MST)[p]Sure it is a start, but it's far from what it should be. I think the archery hunters should have at least the first three weeks of September, preferably all of it. It should never start in August. That should go for the general hunt as well, not just...
You can join the Split Mountain Archers club and shoot in their winter league. I live in Roosevelt and made the trip to Vernal a couple of times a week, just for a place to shoot.

I have only been archery hunting for 5 years now. I have killed 4 bulls, 1 buck, and a bear, all with a 60# bow. Only had 1 that was not a pass through, because of the angle. I think 60# is plenty for anything in North America.
I think I have just bought my last archery elk tag in Utah. If they don't do something with the dates of the hunt, then I am going to start spending my money in Colorado or Idaho.
I like to have my arrows with me for a spot and stalk. If you take off the quiver to stalk, get close and get a shot, if you need another arrow for a follow up you don't have it. I like mine to be with me and accessible at all times.
