You are good to go, no restrictions here like Wyoming somehow puts on access to Federal Lands.

Is this unit worth my 5 points? I hunted in the monument for a couple days a few years ago. I never saw any shooter bucks and I had to get back to work, but the unit looked interesting. Thanks!

You can find the list of landowner tags and contact information for "Small Contributing ranches" on the NM DGF website. Those folks may not know for a couple months if they will get a tag, but often they do. You can then contact them directly. Most outfitters do not mess with cow hunts, so...

There is an old road up to an old cabin near the middle, but it passes through private land. I have seen the road and would be pretty scary even on an ATV. From where that road ends, you still need to walk.... so come in shape and ready to hike/climb. A fun hunt! Study the terrain on google...

Was this a rich hunter? A helo has a motor. Appears to be a clear violation. A bicycle leaves tracks but would be allowed since it has no motor. Send photos with the Helo ID number to the Forest Service and let us know what they do with the info.

yes, on a case by case basis, they may let you transfer the tag to a family member or a hunt of lifetime kid. Call them right away, this may require directors approval so it can take a while. Sorry about your situation, our prayers are wiuth your family.

My son started hunting with a cow tag in Valle Vidal, and was able to get one the second day. In my view, this was an ideal first hunt... easy terrain, lots of elk, and as a cow, no pressure from Mom and Dad to hold out for a bigger trophy. That first hunt was a great family experience...
