    Marlin 1895

LOVE mine. Been my go-to gun for years now. I load 300 grain Nosler Partitions to about 2,300 fps. It's a stout load and packs a whallop, but it'll take down anything on this continent...and maybe any other. So many folks got "scope eyebrow" from my gun (not me) that I finally removed my...

    Weight of Hindqtr?

So the fact that I am training with my 72-pound backpack is a good thing? Wow....I thought I'd be huffing it with a hind-quarter in the pack. Good to know!

    Backpack Question???

Cabela's, Cabela's, Cabela's. I took a regular old Cabela's Alaskan Outfitter external frame pack and loaded it up with 50 pounds, walked on the treadmill at the highest incline for 5 hours a week, 4 months in a row. For 2 more months I loaded it with 72 pounds for 5 hours a week. It'll handle...

    Gold Rush - final results

I watch the show and follow Todd on Twitter. His trip to South America caused him some major sinus issues because of some high altitudes and having to stay/sleep in some pretty unsanitary conditions. This was all taped and will be aired on TV. Pretty good show. Saying that Dave Turin saved his...

    What's the best exercise

The only thing way I lose ANY weight or inches off the middle is one of two things: 1. An insane workout program like P90X 2. Eating right For the past 30 days I have put on a 70-pound backpack and set the treadmill on a 10% incline for 60 minutes straight. Without altering my eating habits, I...

When Hunting Big Game - Condition of your Firearm?

Just wondering the conditions we carry in when we're in the field hunting big game. Feel free to share the why's and why-not's. 1. One in the chamber and the safety on? 2. One in the chamber and the safety off? 3. Cartridges in the magazine, but nothing in the chamber? 4. Cartridges in my...

    Wierdest stuff you drank/ate?

Served to me in Ecuador - my last meal in the country before I came home - FISH JELL-O. Not kidding. Raw, white-flesh fish from the coast mixed in a blender with plain Knox gelatin, served on a mound of white rice. I ate two bites and claimed I was sick and could not continue.

    Nosler Partitions?

My son and I did a test a while back with various types of bullets. We shot hunting rounds (Nosler Partition, Sierra Pro Hunter, Hornady Interlock, and Barnes Originals) into 2-liter water bottles. All bullets were around the 300 grain mark. The Hornady and Nosler went straight, straight...

    Chad Evans Taxidermy

    bullet question

The Accubond bullet is made by Nosler. Nosler simply partners with other ammunition manufacturers to use Nosler bullets in their cartridges. Same with Partition and Ballistic Tips.

Acts of Unselfishness in the woods

A friend and I put in for a southern buck hunt one year. I drew, he didn't. It was my first hunt ever. I thought for sure that he'd just say "Bummer. Well, have fun!" But being the great guy that he is, he planned my entire hunt and even brought his truck and camper along. He guided me all over...

    NEW ELK THUMPER- 338 RUM

I do not own a 338 RUM but am quite interested in ballistics. I have long held the 338 RUM as one of THE most powerful cartridges on the planet. Pound-for-pound, it's QUITE a thumper.

    Best All-Around Gun

Sorry, was reading my manual wrong. You are correct: Straight out of the Nosler 5th Edition Reloading Manual... 150 grain Partition Spitzer Ballistic Coefficient: .387 Sectional Density: .226 Muzzle Velocity with 59 grains of IMR4350: 3,000 fps 100 yards: +1.5" 200 yards: 0" 300 yards: -7.0"...

    >Thats easy 7mm rem mag no >question 06 are you people >for real or are you >only shooting very short distances >200 yds. You are mistaken...slightly. Taking all the loads and powder variations from my reloading manuals and comparing a 150 grain bullet, this is what I find: 7mm Rem Mag...

I call fake. If not fake, then definitely not caused by a 45-70.
  33. T

    7mm or .300wm.

I'd go with the 300 and here's why: a 300 can shoot anything from 125-220 grain bullet. The largest 7mm bullet is about 170 grains. Yes, they'll both kill an elk, but the 300 is more versatile.

    375 H&H Elk Load

Nosler Partition...won't come apart at any velocity and shoot darn straight. 270 grain ought to be wonderful.

    Best All-Around Gun

Because you already have a 25-06, which is a GREAT caliber for anything from prairie dogs to mule deer, I would say go with something a little heavier that will foot the bill for larger critters. I really like the ballistics and feel of the .338 class of cartridges. A 338 Win Mag is a good...

    357 mag loads

Go with the Hornady XTP. The "XTP" stands for "Xtreme Terminal Performance." That means Hornady has manufactured those buggers to open up fast and cause as much damage as possible while avoiding pass-throughs...hopefully. The 180 grain XTP's are a really heavy hollow point and will take care of...

    357 mag loads

LAST EDITED ON Jan-28-10 AT 11:14AM (MST)[p]I use H110 as well in my .357 Magnum loads, however, I use the Hornady 180 grain XTP. A charge of 13.0 grains will drive that little pill to about 1,200 fps as well. And that load is SUPREMELY accurate in my Taurus. In actuality, that is the load and...

    Favorite Hunting Caliber

Yeah....if I had to pick only ONE single caliber, it would likely be the 338 RUM as well. Very powerful and flat shooting and able to take anything in North America with aplomb and nearly any animal in the world.
